Baking is something Tom and I love doing together. We love baking because it is so accessible to Tom and its something we can do on a rainy day. I wanted to write this blog to let you know how we bake together and the equipment we use.

Here is the setup we have for Tom when he is baking.
We use a Kitchen Aid, you could use any mixer as long as it has a 3 point plug.We then have the 'Mains switch controller' from Spacecraft. The 'Mains switch controller' makes anything with a plug switch adaptable. You can also change the settings so for baking I always set it to 'Direct' this means that when Tom takes his hand off the switch the mixer turns off and when he puts his hand on the switch the mixer turns on. We use the big red switch, any switch will work with the 'mains switch controller' so you chose the switch that works best for the child.
Tom and I normally adopt the 'throw it all in' method. This works best for us because then Tom is not hanging around waiting for me to sift flour or separate eggs. (If using flour ensure it is a safe distance away as it can cause breathing difficulties if inhaled.) Once all the ingredients are in, Tom then mixes it all up. We never rush Tom, he does it at his own pace.

If we are making cupcakes Tom has a cupcake maker so he doesn't have to use the oven. I prefer making cupcakes this way as Tom can really get the smell of the cupcakes as they are baking rather than using the oven, this makes it a more sensory activity.
Tom loves baking. If any of you have any easy baking recipes be sure to send them over and we will give them a try. At the moment we do cupcakes ad occasionally will make brownies. Please find below any links to the specialised equipment we use.
