Buggy style wheelchairs

What do you do when your most favourite buggy style wheelchair becomes too small? Tom and his family had this problem towards the end of last year. We have found a great alternative for older children who still want or need the buggy style chair.

Tom is a very tall boy for his age, although only 6 he is as tall as a 10 year old! Until last year Tom was using the R82 Stingray. The R82 Stingray is a great buggy style wheelchair, it is able to look super cool and stylish but also very practical and comfortable. The Stingray offers all the support a child could need from a wheelchair but without all that extra bulk and weight that you often find with the classic wheelchairs. One thing R82 do so well is they make all their products minimalistic allowing us to see the child rather than their equipment.

Tom outgrew his Stingray and his parents were on the hunt for another buggy style wheelchair as the R82 Stingray doesn't go any bigger (no matter how many times we tell them they should make a bigger size). It was at 'Kidz South' where Tom's Mum and Dad saw the 'Hoggi Bingo'. This looked very similar in design to the R82 Stingray with its minimalistic features and also the finishing touches such as the chrome wheels and the matching fabric. After testing out the Hoggi along with other buggy style wheelchairs, it came out on top.

The Hoggi Bingo comes in a good range of sizes so you are normally able to find the right one to fit your needs. Tom had the Rep come out and trial it with him so we could see how well he sat it in. You are also able to have lots of add ons for the Hoggi Bingo so that it ensures maximum comfort and support for each child as an individual. When ordering a Hoggi Bingo you also get a really great colour range to choose from.

The Hoggi isn't usually available to get through wheelchair services but you could always explore the charity funding route, there are many charities out there that will fund a Hoggi Bingo.

During 'Kidz South' we also saw 'Bundlebean', a company that supplies fleece covers for children's buggies and carriers, but they also have a wheelchair range. They do the most amazing designs with a huge range of different patterns. They also come in 2 different sizes so they will fit almost any wheelchair all the way up to adulthood. Tom's 'Bundlebean' has been a huge help during these freezing cold winter months as it keeps the heat in but it is also waterproof. Check the link below out to see their whole range of fleece covers.

It can be a stressful time finding a suitable wheelchair so I hope this has given some of you just a couple of ideas you may not have heard of.
