As it's coming up to Tom's birthday it gave me the idea of writing a post to do with gift ideas for children who may not be able to 'play' with toys in the same way that others can. Just because a child cannot play with certain toys in the way that other children can it doesn't mean you can't buy them toys, you just need to think about how you can adapt that toy so they can access it.
Here are some of the things that would make

great gifts for children such as Tom.
1) Olaf the switch adapted Snowman. We found Olaf on the Inclusive Technology website. Tom loves Olaf, he sings 'Let it Go' and he will also tell stories whilst moving as he does in the movie. You are able to attach up to two switches to Olaf so Tom can choose whether he would like a story or a song. Olaf is a firm favourite.

2) David Walliams books. Tom has started to collect all of the David Walliams books over the past few months, we have now read all of the books and listened to all of the audio books. David Walliams has managed to rival Roald Dahl with the way he writes. Tom and I love reading these books together and we always have a joke as they are very funny. You can buy David Walliams books in any good bookstore. The audio books we found on The Book People, the best place to get bargain books!

3) Eye gaze software 'Eye Can Fly'. Tom was gifted 'Eye Can Fly' this christmas by his Oupa and Ouma. Tom loves it, he is able to fly his own plane using his eyes, become a chicken and collect as many golden coins as he can or complete a treasure hunt. Eye gaze software is a great gift as it is something that Tom is able to access so easily and he has so much fun when playing the games. 'Eye Can Fly' is also great because it is a fun game as opposed to an educational learning program. You can find all the Eye game software on the Inclusive Technology website.

4) Crazy Foam. This is a very inexpensive gift but so much fun! Tom uses the crazy foam as a messy play activity. It smells so great and is really kind on the skin. This is a gift that Tom could receive again and again as it is something we use all the time. For children that want to have a bit of fun in the bath it is also great there. You can buy Crazy Foam from amazon.

5) The Body Shop Bath Bombs. As you may have read in some of my previous Blog posts Tom loves to soak his feet in a lovely sensory foot bath using a bath bomb. You can get bath bombs from anywhere but we prefer to use the Body Shop bath bombs as they are very gentle on the skin but they also smell amazing, Half of a bath bomb is able to make the whole house smell incredible, and can be dried out and used again! Be quick though if you fancy grabbing some of these bath bombs as they only produce them for Christmas time so they are selling the last of their stock now!

These are just a few of the ideas for gift giving. If you are struggling to think of any ideas then feel free to contact me. We have many other ideas I could do a whole other Blog post on it.
*Oupa if you're reading (I know you are) please no more pipe cleaners! We are still using them up from the Christmas before last...Tehehe.*
Hi Megan, some really useful tips here thank you - having a look at Eye Can Fly now as it maybe just what my son needs to inspire him to use his eye gaze. Finding things that are age appropriate is always a challenge. Thank you and I will look out for your posts.
