On Sunday the 25th of February Tom turned 7! 'Thats a big number'. For Tom's birthday we all went down to London to watch 'The Lion King' at the West End.
London is around 2 hours away from us by car. We decided to drive with Tom rather than getting the train because it means that if Tom needs to be stretched or changed we can lie him on the backseat of the car. Public transport into London is tricky as you can't lie Tom down but also not all tube stops are wheelchair friendly! It took us just over 2 hours to get down to London on Sunday, Tom is an amazing traveller and he decided to take the opportunity to snooze the journey away!
We had parking booked by China Town so it was only a short walk to the theatre. We found the theatre and somebody escorted us to our seats. We were at the Lyceum theatre in London. Please note you have to call the theatre to book wheelchair spaces, the earlier you book the more likely you can all sit together. The show is sold out most days!
The show was incredible, truly breathtaking and Tom LOVED it. The animals walk through the audience and they really do look the real thing. Tom loved all the music and the fantastic staging they had. The show was pretty long, around 2 hours 30 minutes with a 15 minute interval. Another thing to note is if you are taking a child that likes to get up and down a lot or may need frequent trips to the bathroom you may be restricted due to the fact that the animals line up in the foyer before entering the theatre though the audience. The staff will tell you cannot exit at this time and you must wait for the animals to come through.
The show was such a buzz and Tom loved it!
We left at the end around 2 minutes before it properly finished but when you have a wheelchair this is probably best as it gets very busy. It's safer for Tom if we leave a little early and also takes a lot of stress away. We had a 2 hour journey home but it was very pretty with all of the London lights and Tom snoozed all the way back.
Tom got so many beautiful cards on his birthday and lots of exciting presents! We are busy exploring and playing with them all this week. Tom's mummy made Tom a beautiful lion cake fitting the theme of the lion king. Tom had a wonderful birthday and we enjoyed sharing it with him.
