Just So...The Musical

Today Tom and I went to our favourite theatre, the Winchester Theatre to see an amateur production by the Winchester University of 'Just So'.

'Just So' followed the story of how the animals became who they are today, how the elephant got his trunk, the leopard his spots and how the camel got his humps. The show followed the Elephant's Child as he tries to stop the evil crab playing with the tides and making it hard for all of the other animals to live. Along the way the Elephants child learns a lot fo life lessons (lessons we should all bear in mind). The show is one of friendship, and this is displayed beautifully through out.

Winchester Theatre is great because even when you are sitting right at the back you can see the stage so clearly.

As this show was done by the Winchester University Tom and I weren't expecting too much. We can safely say we were very pleasantly surprised. This was one of the best shows we have been to, and as you know we have been to a lot! The acting was great, you didn't realise you were even watching a show, the story came to life before your eyes. The show was also very funny! There was lots of humour for the children in there but also some subtle adult jokes as well.

The show was a musical and the singing on stage was beautiful, sometimes in a show you can have one or two weak links when it comes to the singing, but in this show every single actor/actress had a beautiful voice. The music really captured Tom's attention and this was also helped by the live band they had on stage.

Tom particularly like shouting in the quiet bits of the show! This made it very entertaining for me, we were like the naughty school children in the back of the class!

I loved the staging and the whole theme of this show, it wasn't obvious. For example the animals weren't dressed in animals costumes. They were dressed in normal clothes and it left a lot up to the imagination. I really liked this as it meant that it gave us some freedom to think of how the animals would look. It also made the whole show feel very contemporary and new. Tom seemed to really love it!

Winchester theatre was as great and accommodating as ever.

What a lovely was for us to spend a Friday! Tom wishes everyone a very happy bank holiday weekend!
