Today school has been back in full swing. After the Christmas celebrations it took Tom and I a little while to get the hang of the school routine again. Today we managed it!
We have our little routine and it works really well. I believe in giving Tom lots of time to rest and time to process everything, equally I like to make sure that Tom that is working to his full potential and always stimulated. Today we decided to do some very messy play.

Tom and I explored peeled tomatoes and it was a lot of fun indeed. I decided not to warm them up today, this was a brave decision on my part as Tom doesn't always like the cold!
I introduced Tom to it all very slowly. It has been. while since we have done any kind of full on messy play activity, I didn't want to shock Tom.
I used the hand under hand method to introduce Tom to the new textures. Tom started his own exploration as he took his hands off of mine.
Soon enough we were all covered in bright red tomato juice. Tom was having a lot of fun. I think that having left the tomatoes cold this actually stimulated Tom more to play and he was even more engaged in the activity.

Tom is pretty good at telling me once he has had enough with an activity and as it was the first messy play activity in a while I didn't want to push it! Tom always gets a lovely bowl of bubbly water, we use the bubble bars that you can get from the body shop as they are super moisturising, but they also have a lovely scent, this worked well to get rid of the tomato scent!
All in all this was a very successful first day back at school! Keep your eyes peeled for next weeks blog!
