Pods Play

This week Tom got a very exciting delivery, his very own Sensory Pod from Pods Play.

These pods are much like an inflatable tent, but they have build in lighting that is controlled using a remote. The pod also comes in a variety of designs, these designs can zip off so you can change them up when you want to.

We first saw Pods play at 'Kidz South', an exhibition of all the latest equipment and accessories for people with additional needs. They really caught our eye because of how bright the lighting was, but also the interchangeable designs that they offered. The size of the pods were also great as they were big enough to get a couple of people in, meaning we could sit in the pod with Tom.

Last week Tom was lucky enough to get his very own pod. Unfortunately the space graphic was completely sold out, instead we got the 'Sub Aqua' graphic which is as if you are in a submarine and inside the pod you are sounded by fish.

At this moment in time, they're are only 2 graphics that are 'boyish'. Tom wouldn't get enjoyment from the fairies and princesses, but we are hopeful they will design more graphics soon!

The pod arrived very quickly once ordered, it only took 1 working day. We ordered on a Friday and received on the following Monday, shipping times were fab. When it came we set it up, and it was super simple to set up thankfully, this makes it super easy to use at any point in the day.

All that you need to do to set up the pod is to attach the fan that comes with it, plug that and the lighting box into a mains unit and then it self inflates. It inflated in seconds so you don't have to wait around for it and can enjoy playing. The fan is surprisingly quiet, this is the one thing I was concerned about, I was worried it may be a bit like a bouncy castle fan and that would spoil the calming aspect but I was pleasantly surprised. So much so that I want even sure it was working until I saw it inflating!

Tom absolutely loves the Pod, the first time he went in it he couldn't stop smiling. We use it as a calming space, its nice to listen to audio books or do a switch activity in. Tom likes the lighting to be on a colour changing cycle, this makes it look like the fish are moving. You can however pick a static colour for it to stay on. We also like to add other lights inside the tent, things like a star projector or laser lights. We project these onto the ceiling of the tent. It is very much a sensory space.
