The Cake Factory...BakedIn

Today we had the most wonderful baking day. As we have mentioned before Tom uses the BakedIn baking kits. These kits make baking so easy for Tom and they are super fun at the same time. After seeing one of Tom's blog posts in which Tom was using a BakedIn kit and his eye gaze to switch on the Kitchen Aid and read out the method, BakedIn incredibly kindly sent Tom lots of their baking kits, including The Cake Factory.

Tom is the first ever person to receive The Cake Factory, this was super exciting for Tom. The cake factory is a kind of do it yourself, make up your own design cake. BakedIn give you the ingredients to make the cake but you can do as you wish with the decorating.

Tom and I decided to bake The Cake Factory today. As always when Tom is baking we used his eye gaze to activate the Kitchen Aid. Usually we write the method down on the eye gaze for Tom to read out to me and I do as he says. This time I wanted to switch it up a bit so instead of writing the method, I created Tom a grid set with the key language included in the recipe and also a mixing button that would activate the mixer.

Creating grids is super easy, if you use a Smartbox system and are unsure check out their website, it gives you really clear instructions on how to go about making your own grid sets to personalise the eye gaze software.

I want to encourage the learning of new language and I think by focusing on a few key words in each activity that is how we are going to eventually learn how to build full sentences.

We started the baking process. We love BakedIn so much because they give you everything you need minus the butter and eggs (I don't think these would travel very well). They include things like baking tins and greaseproof paper so you don't even need to worry about that, you can simply just enjoy the fun of baking.

With every BakedIn kit you also receive a very clear and easy to follow method card. This is great for Tom or anyone using AAC as I can easily transfer the method onto Tom's Grid 3 software and create his very own grid per kit. This also means that we can save then and use them again and again.

All of the ingredients are pre-weighed for you. This is great for Tom and I as it saves the time Tom is sat waiting for me to weigh everything out. It means the activity can be at Tom's pace and he has a lot more control over what happens. I also make sure the the main thing we focus on during the baking is mixing as Tom has complete control over this.

Tom had a lot of fun making The Cake Factory as you can see. He really got stuck in and as there was so much for him to participate with and we both got very messy. The great thing about BakedIn is once you've made their products they always taste delicious.

We can't wait to try more of their products out soon. Be sure the check out the link below to go directly to the baked in website where you can not only make one of purchases you could also sign up to their monthly subscription and do new baking every month!

See you next week!
