Wiggles the Snoring Pig

Tom loves switch toys, he has only been using switches since December 2016. Once Tom got using the switches he picked it up so quickly, quicker than anyone could have anticipated. It was really beautiful watching Tom work out and understand exactly what the switches meant and what he needed to do with it.

Tom has a huge range of switch adapted toys, it ranges from educational switch toys to ones that are used for calming or sensory. Wiggles the Pig is such a great switch toy as it is great for using as a relaxing activity but Wiggles is also very funny so he can be used for a range of different things. For this reason I think Wiggles would suit so many different children's needs.

During Tom's day we ensure that he moves position ever hour, this is to keep him comfortable, but also Tom becomes tired sat in the same place for too long. This means that we need to think of different activities that can be done when Tom is seated, standing or lying down.

Wiggles is great for all of these positions, Tom loves to use Wiggles while he is lying down. We get all cosy next to his bubble tube with a blanket. I then put the switch in a place where Tom is able to access it easily. Tom then cuddles Wiggles with his other arm.

When activated Wiggles snores, wiggles his ears and chats like a sleepy pig. One of my favourite things about Wiggles is that he 'breathes', this adds a lovely calming aspect to the toy. Wiggles ears flap and this makes a small breeze, so when played with whilst lying down, Wiggles is able to waft Tom with air. Tom really loves Wiggles.

The great thing about Wiggles is that unlike most switch adapted toys he is soft. He feels just like a soft cuddly toy. Most of the switch adapted soft toys have big plastic circuits in the centre and this takes the cuddly aspect away and means its not so comfortable to play with.

As I said earlier Wiggles really would suit anyone, of any age. Wiggles is a huge part of Tom's education and downtime. The switch we use with Wiggles is the 'Big red twist switch' (see below for the link) from Inclusive Technology. Wiggles himself is also from Inclusive Technology.
